Eloi Martínez Ribó
Senior Python Engineer
Professional Summary
Senior Python engineer with professional experience since 2018 building and maintaining backend services, APIs, and asynchronous systems. My background spans business applications, third-party integrations, and software deployed across large fleets of devices, using technologies such as FastAPI, Django, and Pydantic. I enjoy understanding complex systems and turning ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable software. I value clear code, meaningful tests, and solutions that are straightforward to operate and maintain.
Work Experience
Senior Python Developer
I develop backend and edge software for thousands of IoT gateways built on Raspberry Pi CM3/CM4 modules and a custom ARM board. This includes Python backend services, embedded Linux software, hardware integrations, and Ansible-based deployments across the device fleet.
One project I particularly enjoyed involved integrating a third-party smart lock for which we had no usable API or documentation. I reverse-engineered the device's communication protocol and built a reliable integration for our platform.
Python Developer
Backend Python developer writing clean code with Django and FastAPI on AWS. Implemented task processing with Celery and Prefect for asynchronous workloads. Utilized Datadog for monitoring and performance optimization. Worked with CI/CD on GitHub and AWS using agile methodologies.
Full-stack Developer
Development of multiplatform applications with Django and Vue, including a comprehensive warehouse management system. Implemented integrations with various hardware devices such as QR readers, label printers, and industrial scales. Responsible for installation and maintenance of physical and cloud servers to support the warehouse operations.
Education
IT Systems & Multiplatform Application Development
- Degree in microcomputer systems and networks
- Higher Degree in Multiplatform Application Development
About Me
I am a self-hosting and home automation enthusiast who favours local-first, privacy-respecting technology. Most of my services, including Immich, Pi-hole, and Home Assistant, run on TrueNAS, while my OPNsense router is virtualised on Proxmox.
I have used Home Assistant daily for more than five years, and my setup has grown to more than 100 connected devices. Among other things, I use it for load balancing and automatic load shedding at home.
I enjoy understanding and modifying the systems I rely on, and I am always looking for something new to learn or build. That might mean exploring a different language, contributing to an open-source project, or finding a better way to run my own infrastructure.

Open Source Projects
- pocker — Resumable OCI image puller written in Rust, with layer caching, Compose support, and an OCI-compatible cache server.
- ha-mqtt-models-pydantic — Typed Pydantic v2 models for validating and generating Home Assistant MQTT discovery payloads.
Community Contributions
- Home Assistant Core: removed a duplicated MQTT schema definition.
- Z-Wave JS UI: exposed node locations as suggested areas through MQTT discovery.
- Z-Wave JS UI: reduced the production Docker image by 42%, from 507 MB to 292 MB.
